The first victory in the career of Carlos Sainz it has all the characteristics of the race to remember: it arrived after a very long wait (150GP), on a legendary circuit like that of Silverstone and at the wheel of the most iconic single-seater of all: Ferrari. But the success of the Spaniard on English soil was also fraught with controversy and controversy. According to many red fans and as many opinion leaders, in fact, it was the ‘wrong Ferrari’ that prevailed. For the entire GP, Charles Leclerc, who showed up at this GP in third place in the general classification and with 24 points more than Sainz, seemed faster than the Spaniard. On various occasions the native of the Principality has made it clear in the radio messages that he wants to receive road from Sainz – which also occurred in the central phase of the race – but to definitively stop the ambitions of the red # 16 was the strategy of the pit wall red when the Safety Car enters the track.
On that occasion, in fact, the strategists of Ferrari chose to to keep Leclerc on track and to bring Sainz back, fitting the Madrid native new soft tires. Ferrari then tried in some way to ‘compensate’ Leclerc by asking Sainz to act as a ‘stopper’ and put ten cars at a distance between himself and his teammate at the restart – a maneuver allowed by the regulation, but very close to the limit, given that beyond the ten cars away a penalty would have been taken – but in this case the # 55 won decisively. From the radio communications that follow this characteristic emerges: one greater peremptoriness of Sainz, compared to Leclerc, in imposing himself on the strategies suggested by the team and also in disregarding them. A feature that had also emerged in Monte Carlo and which in this case earned Sainz the victory.
