The qualifying for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix they closed definitely in chiaroscuro for the Ferrari, protagonist of a session characterized by satisfactions and disappointments. On the track of Jeddah, Charles Leclerc conquered the 4th position, redeeming himself from yesterday’s mistake that occurred at the end of the PL2. However, speaking of accidents, today it was instead the turn of Carlos Sainz to ‘caress’ the protective barriers of the Saudi track, albeit with much less damage than those reported by the Monegasque teammate.
The Spaniard, after losing control at the curve 11, managed to avoid the risk of a heavy hit against the barriers, while slightly touching therear wing. Although he then resumed the direction of the pits without particular complications, the number 55 tried to sign his own fastest lap, risking a similar accident for the second time.
At the end of the tests, the pilot himself analyzed what happened in those moments, not hiding his bitterness: “The episode that occurred in turn 11 had never happened to me during the weekend – has explained – I lost control of the car without expecting it. I managed to control the spin, but the problem is that I touched the wall lightly with the rear wing. I didn’t hear anything, but after looking in the mirrors I noticed that there was damage ”.
“From that moment there was a bit of confusion: I tried to do another lap with the damaged wing and, up to turn 11, I still had a good pace – added Sainz – At that point, however, the wing moved, and as a result of the load I started the car again, even at 13. Too bad, because it’s a small mistake that had a big consequence. I was very fast in Q1, as well as in the last four races and also throughout the weekend. Unfortunately it is an uncertainty that costs me dearly“.
