It was 1993 when BANDAI AMERICA decided to make a TV series, hybrid between animation and live action, dedicated to Sailor Moon. However, things did not go as planned and the series was canceled before seeing the light, despite the work on the pilot episode had already been completed. Saban Moon (title derived from the union of “Sailor Moon” and “Haim Saban”, the name of the producer of the series) would have mixed live action and animation, with the animated parts made by the American studio Toon Makers. The debut was scheduled for the following year, 1994.
After obtaining permission from Frank Ward, former president of BANDAI AMERICAthe content creator Ray Mona was able to publish the pilot episode of the series in its entirety, obtained from Library of Congress. Before now, in fact, only some particularly avid fans had managed, during an edition of the Anime Expo, to admire a preview of 17 minutes of unreleased video material (then disseminated on the web in an illicit way).
According to the video, which we report below, the series would have been shot on the same set as the sitcom “Saved by the Bell“, Which aired between 1989 and 1993. Stephanie Dicker was chosen for the role of Sailor Moon, while actress Adrienne Barbeau, who among her numerous assignments has voiced Era in God of War IIIwould play Queen Beryl and Queen Serenity.
Finally, you can admire the excellent work done by Ray Mona, complete with the pilot episode of the American remake of Sailor Moon (minute 1:43:48).
