Belarusian tennis star Aryna Sabalenka expressed her feeling of “pride” after achieving her dream of winning the women’s singles title at the US Open “Flushing Meadows”, the fourth of the four Grand Slam tournaments this season.
Sabalenka regained the top spot in the world rankings after defeating American Jessica Pegula 7-5, 7-5 in the final of the tournament, which was hosted by New York City. This is Sabalenka’s second Grand Slam title this year, after her victory in Australia, noting that it is the third championship in her career in the four majors.
“I am still speechless and in awe,” Sabalenka said after winning the hardcourt tournament.
“I thought many times that I was so close to winning the US Open, it was always a dream for me, and finally I got this beautiful trophy, it means a lot,” the Belarusian added.
Sabalenka lost the final of the tournament last year to American Coco Gauff.
“I remember all those tough defeats I had in the past here, never give up, never give up on your dream, keep trying and working hard to achieve your dream,” Sabalenka said in her remarks, as reported by the British news agency PA Media.
“If you sacrifice everything to achieve your dream, you will get it one day. I am very proud of myself,” Sabalenka stressed at the end of her speech.
