On Sunday, November 21, the personal physician of former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili Nikoloz Kipshidze suggested that a psychologist and a psychiatrist should be involved in the treatment of a politician. He told reporters about this after visiting the politician at the military hospital in Gori.
According to the doctor, it is possible that the involvement of foreign specialists will be required to assess Saakashvili’s condition.
Speaking about the health of his patient, Kapshidze noted that he could not say that the danger had passed and everything was fine.
“We need to observe and see what will happen and how. <...> He continues treatment, general weakness, headache is noted, pressure plays, “the doctor quotesInterfax“.
According to him, the first day of the recovery process after the hunger strike went well, but neurology is a concern, and the arrival of specialists is planned in the coming days. The doctor emphasized that such patients have post-traumatic syndrome, which is subject to certain and very difficult treatment and rehabilitation.
In addition, the physician pointed out that Saakashvili feels calmer in the hospital than in the prison hospital, is grateful to the hospital’s doctors and believes that the difference between the two institutions is big. However, there was a problem with the window in the ward. The politician demanded that sunlight enter the ward and the window open at least a centimeter. As a result, the issue was resolved.
Earlier that day, Kapshidze said that the rehabilitation of the Georgian ex-president should be quite long. He stressed that Saakashvili has many problems, and taking medications does not mean that the ex-president will definitely recover.
On November 20, the politician’s personal doctor said that Saakashvili had ended his hunger strike on October 4.
The convicted politician was taken to a military hospital on Saturday, accompanied by ambulances, cars of the execution service and the police. Also with the ex-president were lawyers and his personal doctor.
On November 19, specialists who visited Saakashvili in prison revealed a serious brain disease, due to which he is likely to develop a coma with a possible fatal outcome. In this regard, the Ministry of Justice of Georgia decided to take the ex-president from the intensive care unit of the prison hospital to the military hospital in Gori.
The former Georgian leader was detained October 1 in Tbilisi after his return to the country ahead of local elections. A criminal case was initiated against him on illegal crossing of the country’s border. In addition, the ex-president at home was convicted in absentia of the murder of banker Sandro Girgvliani and the beating of deputy Valery Gelashvili. In the first case, he was sentenced to three years in prison, in the second – to six. Saakashvili is also involved in the cases of dispersal of the opposition rally on November 7, 2007, the pogrom of the Imedi TV company and the embezzlement of funds from the state budget – they continue to be considered by the courts.
