The end of the Galaxy and S-Max has also been announced.
The car market is changing very fast. This means that car brands have to review their range at a rapid pace. This is certainly causing a huge turnaround for the traditional volume brands. Just look at Renault. The Talisman, Scénic, Grand Scénic, Espace and Koleos went out of production there in a short time.
The same is happening at Ford. The Fiesta will soon be out of production, as will the Focus, and there will be no successor. Then there’s the Mondeo: it’s ready too. The fifth generation is only available in China. Now the end is there for the Ford S-Max and Ford Galaxy.
Real MPVs
These are in The Netherlands withdrawn from the market some time ago. In principle, no electrified powertrains means that a brand in our country has no chance. Especially if it is not yet a premium car or crossover. Now it was known that they were coming to an end, however it is now final. The two cars will be built until 2023 and after that it’s over for the two real MPVs.
The space cars were once a great success. Since 1996, 820,000 copies of the Ford Galaxy have been built. However, last year Ford was stuck at 4,700 across Europe. The S-Max – once car of the year – has also been a success, Ford has built and sold 570,000 of them. Last year that was only 7,400 units.
Hybrid eventually came for S-Max and Galaxy
Of course it should be clear how Ford will follow up the S-Max and Galaxy: with crossovers! In the price segment of the departing MPVs, you can also opt for a Ford Kuga, Ford Mustang Mach-E or Ford Explorer.
Remarkably, the Ford S-Max and Galaxy got the long-awaited ‘hybrid’ options a year and a half ago. According to Ford, these were even 10% more economical than their own diesels. They were not crack monsters with a 2.5 Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder and modest electric motor, together good for 190 preserved horsepower. Unfortunately, these were never delivered in the Netherlands. Maybe import one to our country, because young used seven-seaters are hard to find. Especially if you don’t want a crossover.
