The Afghan authorities announced, on Friday, that the excavation and rescue teams had reached the child Haider, who had been stuck for two days in a well in the south of the country, but they found him dead.
Anas Haqqani, a senior advisor at the Ministry of Interior, wrote in a tweet that the child Haider “left us forever. It is a new day of mourning and sadness for our country.”
An Afghan rescue team tried to rescue the boy over 3 days of digging to reach him.
The child Haider, 5, fell into a well in the Jaldak district of Zabul province in southern Afghanistan, and social media pioneers circulated pictures of the rescue operation under the hashtag (Save Haider).
Haidar’s story is similar to the story of the Moroccan child Rayan, who died after falling into a well in Morocco two weeks ago.
