At Ryanair, several European cabin crew unions called a strike starting Friday in Spain, Portugal and Belgium, and starting Saturday in France and Italy. In Belgium, the strike forced the Irish low-cost company to cancel 127 flights, between Friday and Sunday, arriving or departing from Charleroi airport (south), where it concentrates most of its activity in the country.
This strike coincides with another at Brussels Airlines (of the Lufthansa group), scheduled until Saturday, and which forced the cancellation of 315 flights at Brussels-Zaventem airport from Thursday to Saturday.
In Portugal, the Ryanair strike forced the cancellation of two flights on Friday morning alone, according to the SNPVAC union, although this organization warned that the strike could gain strength throughout the day.
And in Spain, where Ryanair has 1,900 workers, no flight had to be cancelled, except for those going to Belgium. The Spanish Ministry of Transport decided on Thursday to impose minimum services of up to 82% of flights to certain destinations, with the idea of ”comparing the general interest of citizens and in particular their mobility needs, with the right to strike of this group of workers.
