For this reason, he added: “Let us not take the situation not only to the use, but even the threat of use” of nuclear weapons.
If someone’s actions threaten our sovereignty and territorial integrity, we consider it possible to use all means at our disposal.
“For some reason the West believes that Russia will never use them. We have a nuclear doctrine. Look what is written on it. If someone’s actions threaten our sovereignty and territorial integrity, we consider it possible to use all means at our disposal,” he said.
Putin also stressed that in this matter we must behave as professionals and not “lightly, superficially.”
“I hope that everyone in the world also takes that position,” he said.
The Russian president still considers a possible Russian attack against NATO countries “nonsense”
At the time he gave these statements, Putin called a possible Russian attack against NATO countries “nonsense”, due to the great difference in their military potential.
Addressing representatives of 16 international media, the head of the Kremlin asked not to create an image that Russia is the enemy.
“It has been invented that Russia wants to attack NATO. Who invented it? It’s nonsense, you understand? A delirium,” he insisted, adding that Russia has no “imperial ambitions.”
The Russian leader’s interview with officials from the world’s main news agencies lasted more than three hours, in which Putin answered more than 20 questions.
Putin threatens if West gives long-range weapons to Ukraine
Putin’s statements, delivered at a rare press conference with foreign media in St. Petersburg, come after the United States and several European countries authorized Ukraine to use, under certain conditions, the weapons given to it to attack Russian territory.
“If someone thinks that it is possible to supply these weapons to a war zone to attack our territory (…) why don’t we have t
he right to send weapons of the same type to regions of the world where sensitive installations of countries acting against Russia?” Putin asked.

The 71-year-old president, however, described as “nonsense” the allegations that Russia plans to attack members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
“Do not look for our imperial ambitions. They do not exist,” he stressed.
“Delivering weapons to a war zone is always wrong. Even more so if those who do it not only deliver weapons, but also control them. This is a very serious and very dangerous step,” added the head of the Kremlin.
“When they say that there will be more missiles that will hit targets on Russian territory, this definitively destroys Russian-German relations,” he said, referring to the authorities of this country.
Germany has authorized Ukraine to use its weapons against military targets in Russia to defend itself against attacks launched in particular in the Kharkiv region, the spokesman for the German head of government announced at the end of May.
