One of Russia’s most wanted criminals, Yuri Chekin, has been charged with a new criminal case under Article 105 (“Preparation for Murder”) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. About this on Thursday, February 3, informs regional department of the Investigative Committee of Russia (TFR).
According to investigators, in 2009, Chekin, who was on the international wanted list, wanted to personally kill the deputy prosecutor of the Khanty-Manisi Autonomous Okrug (Yugra), for which he purchased a Makarov pistol and ammunition. In the summer of 2010, he asked an acquaintance to lure a deputy prosecutor who lived outside the city to Khanty-Mansiysk, where he was going to kill him. But the woman refused, and Chekin’s plans failed to materialize.
Yury Chekin was detained on October 26 after 20 years of being searched. According to investigators, in the 1990s he headed the control and audit department of the Ministry of Finance in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug. At the same time, he had a cooperative, through which, during 1993, he stole 15.6 million rubles belonging to an oil and gas producing enterprise. For this, the prosecutor’s office opened a criminal case against Chekin.
