“Kommersant”: the cost of a taxi trip by the end of the year may increase by another 30 percent
The Public Taxi Development Council has warned that rides in Russia could rise in price by another 30 percent by the end of the year, after the average ticket rose 10 percent over the past three months. Market participants’ assessments leads “Kommersant”.
The head of the Competence Center of the International Eurasian Taxi Forum, Stanislav Schwagerus, agrees with the imminent rise in prices, but does not think that it will be so significant. The cost of the service will have to include the increase in prices for cars, capital goods, gasoline, and new insurance from November 1. Legislative initiatives will also lead to costs.
“It won’t be too expensive, because then passengers will refuse taxis, and accordingly, taxi drivers and aggregators will earn less,” the expert believes.
In Moscow this summer, according to the Check Index company, the average taxi trip cost 800 rubles; per kilometer, the trip became 17 percent more expensive. Market participants talk about a shortage of personnel, which is aggravated by changes in migration policy and regulation of the field.
Vice-President of the Center for Infrastructure Economics Maxim Fadeev recalled that most of the rise in prices is due to an increase in wages for taxi drivers. And, most likely, the situation will not change in the near future, since there is nowhere to recruit drivers.
Separately, he recalled that problems with the operation of navigators in the center of Moscow increase the average time to find a taxi. This leads to less efficiency per trip, which means additional pressure on prices.
Earlier, the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) warned that the Ministry of Economic Development’s bill “On the Platform Economy in the Russian Federation” will significantly complicate the work of taxi aggregators and make it impossible for citizens to use it as usual.
