One of the most important technologies of the future, which will become a key driver of the development of the Russian economy, will be the Internet of Things (IoT). Oleg Novikov, head of IoT development at ATB Elektronika, told Lente.ru about this within the framework of the CyberReality project. He also predicted that this would happen much faster than many expected.
“The future has already arrived, just in our everyday hustle and bustle we do not notice that, for example, each of us has a smartphone in our pocket, thanks to the computing power of which it is possible to control a spacecraft,” warned Novikov. “If we talk about the prospects for the development of the Internet of Things in Russia for the next ten years, then smart cities with smart houses, smart public transport and, of course, smart people are immediately imagined.”
One of the consequences of the development of the Internet of Things, the expert called the fact that machines will be able to communicate with each other without the participation of people. Already today, according to Novikov, any space and any mechanism can be endowed with intelligence – for example, create huge smart houses and warehouses or small devices like smart electricity meters.
“We live in the 21st century, and what seemed fantastic 20 years ago now finds its application in the everyday life of every person. Isaac Asimov and the Strugatsky brothers many years ago described in their science fiction novels the world of the future in which we live already here and now. Today we endow machines with intelligence, thereby opening the door to any bold ideas that are aimed at simplifying human life, ”the expert added.
Moreover, in Russia, according to Novikov, there are practically no restrictions on the use and development of the Internet of Things. Modular approaches help developers respond to new challenges in a timely manner, in which large IT systems are built from separate constituent parts. Novikov also called the professional level of domestic specialists quite high.
Earlier, the Ruselectronics holding of the Rostec state corporation announced plans to release tracker bracelets for remote monitoring of people. The device is based on LoRaWAN Internet of Things technology. The tracker can work up to 160 hours without recharging. The gadget will be equipped with a pulse oximeter, an SOS button and a hand-held sensor.
The Internet of Things is a concept of using smart objects equipped with technologies to interact with each other and capable of performing some operations without human intervention. An example of using the Internet of Things is a smart home, that is, a room with automated lighting, heating, air conditioning, security, video surveillance systems. Smart household appliances can be integrated into the system – for example, refrigerators, which are able to track the availability of products and, if necessary, order them on the Internet, as well as monitor their own health.
The CyberReality project is dedicated to how high technologies are changing the lives of Russians and humanity in general. He talks about how developments that seemed fantastic just a few years ago are now providing safety, helping in everyday life, saving lives, expanding the horizons of people with disabilities and caring for the elderly.
