Several criminal cases opened in Russia due to fraud with IKEA goods
In Russia, scammers have become more active, offering to buy goods from stores of the Swedish-Dutch retail chain IKEA that have closed in the country. About the new scheme of deception of citizens warned experts interviewed by Izvestia.
According to law enforcement sources, three criminal cases have already been opened in Moscow after the Russians transferred money to such sellers, and they disappeared. According to experts, an unknown person contacted one of the victims and convinced her to pay for a sofa previously ordered from IKEA – the woman transferred money to him, but she never received the goods.
The attackers found another victim in the house’s neighbors’ Telegram chat. The Russian woman ordered 500 glasses from a swindler and transferred an advance payment of 50 percent, but the fraudster who received the money stopped communicating. The third victim contacted the attackers on her own — in the “Looking for IKEA” group on VKontakte, she found an ad from an alleged employee of the network who sells store goods bought at a discount. The woman also gave the money and did not receive the goods.
“When buying from hand, all payment must be made only at the time of transfer of the goods, regardless of who the seller is – an employee of the organization or any other person,” Yulia Kombarova, managing partner of Legal Bureau No. 1, recommended.
The CEO of Eterna, Dmitry Tomilin, is sure that you can fully protect yourself from fraud only by completely abandoning the goods of brands that have left Russia – otherwise the risks cannot be avoided, the expert believes.
After IKEA’s statement about the suspension of activities in Russia, advertisements for the sale of goods from the Swedish brand began to appear on various sites. So, they wanted to sell the Blohey toy shark through Wildberries for 19.9 thousand rubles, while it could be purchased in chain stores for 1.5 thousand rubles.
