Doctor Tyazhelnikov: in the heat you should not drink sweet soda, coffee and strong tea
Sweet soda, coffee and strong tea, as well as alcohol should be excluded from the diet in the heat. The chief freelance specialist in primary health care of the Moscow Department of Health Andrei Tyazhelnikov spoke about this, writes RIA News.
“When it’s hot, you shouldn’t drink sweet carbonated drinks. The sugar they contain does not quench your thirst and will only increase dehydration. In addition, you will get a lot of extra calories with the drink,” he said.
According to the doctor, in hot weather it is strictly forbidden to drink alcohol, and not just strong alcohol. It increases the load on the heart and blood vessels and on the entire body in general. Drinking alcoholic beverages can cause other unpleasant health consequences.
As Tyazhelnikov noted, the general recommendation is to drink at least 2.5 liters per day. At the same time, you need to drink clean water when thirst appears and every hour in small portions, about 100 milliliters, so as not to overload the kidneys.
In addition, you can add lemon juice, berries or mint to the water. You can also drink herbal tea, unsweetened fruit drink, compote or low-mineralized water. All drinks should be cool, but not ice-cold.
Earlier, weather forecasters announced the timing of the heat wave in Moscow. The air temperature will drop at the beginning of next week. In the first days of June, weather with temperatures from plus 22 to 27 degrees is predicted. At night temperatures up to plus 15 degrees are expected. There will also be some light precipitation.
The day before, scientists said that high ultraviolet indices were recorded in the Central Federal District of Russia, and therefore it is worth minimizing exposure to the sun.
