About half of Russians support the creation of an autonomous segment of the Internet in the country, according to a study by Otkrytie Bank, writes RIA News…
Almost half – 46 percent – voted en masse for the emergence of Runet with a range of services similar to the global ones: 15 percent – “for”, another 31 percent answered that they rather support the initiative. “However, 32 percent of the respondents are rather negative about this idea, another 22 percent – sharply negative,” the experts noted.
At the same time, two percent of survey participants do not use the global network at all. 73 percent of Russians cannot imagine life without a network and would not like to give up on it. 66 percent consider the possibility of completely disconnecting citizens from the “global web” as a violation of human rights to free access to information. This point of view is most shared in Siberia (72 percent), the Urals and the Central Federal District (69 percent each), the least popular is this opinion in the North Caucasus (55 percent) and the North-Western District (59 percent).
19 percent of Russian residents believe that it is technically impossible to disconnect the country from the Internet, as people will find ways to bypass the blocking. 12 percent of people think that it is not necessary to completely disconnect Russia from the Internet, but it is useful to have such an opportunity. Only three percent of respondents supported the complete disconnection of the state from the global network.
The poll, conducted from October 11 to 18, was attended by a thousand Russians from 18 to 65 years old.
Earlier, Russians called the lack of control over information and verification of its reliability as the main disadvantages of the Internet.
