Baja California.- After the war over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine broke out, families from these two countries have begun to arrive in the border city of Tijuana, in Baja California with the intention of requesting political asylum in the United States.
Mexican authorities of the Migration’s national institute (INM) confirmed that since the beginning of the invasion last February, they have detected an increase in the arrival of people from these countries to Tijuana of up to 20 people daily.
According to the news agency EFEthe Migration’s national institute confirmed that since the beginning of the invasion in mid-February, an increase in Ukrainian and Russian people was detected in this city, with at least two dozen people of these nationalities arriving daily.
In this sense, Claudia Pérez, migration agent reported that most of the citizens who have arrived are of Russian origin, but the arrival of families from Ukraine has been detected. The public servant added that these people, like other migrants who request their legal stay in the country, are offered a stay in shelters, but they prefer to stay in hotels and move on their own.
According to the data, only this Friday, a group of 17 people, including two families from Ukraine and one from Russia and a couple from Belarus, arrived at the San Ysidro border port to process the asylum application in the United States, but CBP border agents prevented them from entering.
As mentioned by the news agency, one of the migrants of Ukrainian origin revealed that she had arrived in Mexico since March together with her family, she explained that in order to move she had to travel from her country to Russia, where she took a flight to Cancun, Mexico and from there he moved to Tijuana.
“The people of my country are taking advantage of the fact that there is a direct flight to Cancun, they also arrive in Mexico City”the woman mentioned to EFE, who also assured that despite the fact that the trips are long, they are worth the vein to save their lives.

Similarly, another Ukrainian migrant commented that he had to flee with his wife and two daughters from Ukraine after a bomb fell about 300 meters from his house. He commented that he first traveled to Europe and then decided to go to Mexico.
