In an interview with a Norwegian news agency, General Eirik Kristoffersen demands rapid equipping against the Russian threat.
in Norway there are only a few years to prepare militarily against the Russian threat, warn Commander of the Norwegian Defense Forces Eirik Kristoffersen.
“This window will last maybe a year, two or three, and during that time we have to invest even more in durable defense,” says General Kristoffersen in an interview with the Norwegian NTB news agency.
“We are running out of time.”
Kristoffersen reflects that it is impossible to know the direction of Russia in three years or after the end of the war in Ukraine, and one must be prepared for uncertainty.
NATO countries military leaders gathered last week in Brussels. There, Kristoffersen drew attention to the military economy created by Russia, the production of which has accumulated a surprisingly large amount of the country's weapons stockpiles.
“They have also cooperated with countries like Iran and North Korea, which means that Russia's defense forces have strengthened faster than we anticipated even last year.”
Also in Sweden, the commander of the defense forces Micael Bydén and leading politicians have warned the people about the possible spread of the war to their own soil.
“We talk about the same things, me and Bydén,” Kristoffersen tells NTB.
“The security situation in the world is serious.”
