Ponomarev said that Russia shouldn’t have even gone to play against Vietnam
Defender of the USSR national football team Vladimir Ponomarev criticized the conduct of the national team’s match against Vietnam. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
In his opinion, the football management made a mistake and Russia should not have even gone to play against Vietnam. “They just wasted time and probably ruined the training process. They should have played in Russia, somewhere in a small town, and gathered the first, second and youth teams,” he said.
Earlier, commentator Gennady Orlov called the match in Vietnam torture for the Russians. He noted that the best idea was for the Russian national team to play against the team of legionnaires of the Russian Premier League (RPL).
On September 5, the Russian team played against Vietnam in Hanoi. The match ended with a score of 3:0 in favor of the guests. On September 7, the Russia-Thailand match was supposed to take place there, but it was cancelled due to a typhoon.
