Russian ice climbing champion Alena Vlasova died from a tick bite
Russian ice climbing champion Alena Vlasova died at the age of 35. Information about the death of the athlete appeared on the page of the Russian Mountaineering Federation on the VKontakte social network.

The organization reported that Vlasova died after she was bitten by a tick infected with encephalitis at her dacha in June. She was urgently hospitalized. The athlete died on October 5. Farewell is scheduled for Wednesday, October 9. She will be buried in Kirov at the Novomakarevskoye cemetery. The athlete is survived by her husband and 12-year-old daughter.
Before her death, Vlasova was connected to a ventilator
In the last months of her life, the Russian ice climbing champion was connected to a ventilator due to complications of encephalitis. According to the SHOT Telegram channel, 70 percent of her lungs were affected.
The athlete spent three months in intensive care in a coma, but doctors were unable to save her. Vlasova’s husband stated that she heard speech and tried to answer, and could open and close her eyes.

Vlasova became Russian champion in February 2024
One of the last competitions in which the athlete participated was the All-Russian competition and the Russian Championship in Tomsk in February 2024.

The event was organized by the Tomsk Mountaineering Federation and the KEDR House of Children and Youth. Then, among 170 participants in the competition, Vlasova and her partner Nikita Glazyrin turned out to be the best in the pairs race.
