The crews of Ka-27PS carrier-based helicopters of the Naval Aviation of the Pacific Fleet, as part of the exercise, conducted ice reconnaissance in the area of the La Perouse Strait, which connects the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk. As clarified in the military formation, the helicopter crews assessed the state of the ice in the areas of the planned crossing through the strait zone. The helicopter pilots also identified safe routes for movement and determined directions for overcoming ice fields.
In addition, the press service of the Eastern Military District reported that a safe parking of ships and vessels of the Pacific Fleet on an unprotected roadstead was organized in the waiting area.
“The servicemen of the anti-submarine and sabotage defense unit have strengthened control over the water surface, and carry out preventive grenade throwing,” the report says.
During the stay, the ships of the detachment also conducted training in organizing air defense and countering the sabotage activities of a mock enemy.
On the eve of February 3, it became known that the crews of a detachment of warships of the Northern Fleet conducted an air defense exercise in the Atlantic. The crews of the cruiser “Marshal Ustinov” and the frigate “Admiral Kasatonov” took part in the exercise.
A day earlier, it was reported that two Tu-95 strategic missile carriers of long-range aviation flew over the neutral waters of the Barents and Norwegian Seas, as well as the northeastern part of the Atlantic Ocean. According to the press service of the Defense Ministry, the missile carriers were accompanied by MiG-31 fighters of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Northern Fleet.
