The embassy said that the incident happened to an embassy employee on October 19, but it did not elaborate on what happened.
The Russian embassy issued its statement after the German magazine “Der Spiegel”, without naming sources, reported that the 35-year-old man had fallen from a high floor of the embassy building in central Berlin.
She added that the police found his body in front of the embassy and were unable to revive him.
On Friday, the German Foreign Ministry said it was aware of the incident, but did not follow up, citing privacy concerns.
Berlin police and the public prosecutor’s office also declined to comment.
“All procedures related to the return of the diplomat’s body were quickly arranged with the relevant German law enforcement and medical authorities in accordance with current practices,” the Russian embassy said.
Der Spiegel reported that the man has been the second secretary at the Russian embassy since 2019, but German security authorities believe he works for the Russian Federal Intelligence Service, the FSB.
And the embassy statement also stated: “We consider the speculations that appeared in a number of Western media in light of this tragic event to be completely untrue.”
