Citizens of Russia and Belarus planning to enter the territory of Latvia will be additionally checked in accordance with the adopted resolution of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic. This was reported on August 30 by the portal Delphi.
If earlier only those whose place of residence was Chechnya, Dagestan, Ingushetia or North Ossetia were additionally checked, now this applies to absolutely all Russians, Belarusians, and also citizens of Cameroon. This will help the Latvian security services to determine whether a particular foreigner poses a “threat to national security or public order”.
The inclusion in the list of citizens of Cameroon is due to the increase in the number of visas issued to them in recent years.
“The presence of a large number of forged documents raises reasonable suspicions about the authenticity of the persons who submitted these documents, therefore, there is reason to believe that the entry of Cameroonian citizens could be associated with threats to national security, public order and security,” the Foreign Ministry quoted the publication as saying.
On August 24, the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, called it necessary to isolate members of Russian society disloyal to the state.

On July 29, it became known that Russian citizens crossing the Latvian border were being forced to sign a document condemning the special operation to protect Donbass in connection with the elimination of threats to Latvia’s national security. It was later explained on local radio that foreigners who enter Latvia from Russia or Belarus will be intensively searched at border points, which was officially confirmed by the Latvian State Security Service.
