International On Monday, the Finnish Orienteering Federation (IOF) decided to exclude the Russian organization from competition activities. The IOF spoke about it on their website.
The decision means that the Russians will not be able to participate in the competition activities of ski orienteering, precision orienteering and cycling in addition to orienteering.
The next IOF international event will be held in Finland, when Keminmaa will host the World Championships in Ski Orienteering in March. President of the Finnish Orienteering Association Mika Ilomäki considers the decision of the IOF to be comprehensible and upright.
“I think it would have been very difficult for the Russians to take part in the event in Finland in this situation,” he said in a statement from the Finnish Navigation Association.
“Hopefully a similar barrier will be implemented in other international sports as well.”
Finns the clubs have been in active contact with the Orienteering Association, asking how the clubs should react to Russian orienteers.
According to Ilomäki, the clubs must determine for themselves whether the Russians will continue to be their members.
“Some Russians live permanently in Finland and are part of Finnish society. Such people cannot be excluded on any grounds, ”Ilomäki said.
“The situation is a bit more difficult when a Russian club member is only visiting Finland due to a competition event. But these are the club’s priorities, because the Orienteering Association cannot determine who are the members of its member clubs. ”

“World political events affect us all. With these statements, we want to show our support for the Ukrainians on behalf of the entire Finnish boxing family in connection with the war against the country, ”the Boxing Association explained.
