Russian attack Online magazine Meduza: Russia is planning a new attack on Kiev

The Kremlin hopes that Russia’s full victory in Ukraine will be possible before the end of the year.

Russian the recent success of the troops in eastern Ukraine has led the Russian leadership to consider a new attack on the capital, Kiev, says online magazine Meduza.

An independent newspaper from the Kremlin, operating from Latvia, recalls that at the beginning of the Russian offensive war, the Russians tried to conquer Kiev but failed.

However, the recent advance of Russian troops in the Donbas region has prompted the Kremlin to consider a new attempt.

According to Meduza sources, Russia’s success has been aroused by the president Vladimir Putin in the administration hopes even that Russia’s full victory in Ukraine will be possible before the end of the year.

Russian According to several sources interviewed by the magazine, management has defined minimum and maximum targets for the profit of a “special operation”.

The minimum requirement for a declaration of victory would be the complete conquest of the Donbass region. Its Russian troops have almost achieved it. According to recent estimates, Ukraine currently controls only 5% of the Luhansk region and less than half of the Donetsk region.

The Kremlin’s biggest goal is still to take over Kiev. After the March attempt, the Russians withdrew from Kiev, leaving behind a huge amount of evidence of shocking war crimes.

Even then, experts estimate that Russia’s military power is not enough to take over the city.

However, according to Meduza sources, the Russian leadership has not given up on this goal.

“We’re crushing them [ukrainalaiset] eventually. The whole thing is probably over by the fall, ”says one source.

Belief Russia’s victory prevails not only in the Kremlin but also in the United Russia party, which supports Putin.

Secretary – General of the Party Council Andrei Turtšak has visited Donbass regularly, according to Meduza. He even raised the Russian flag to Zaporizhia City Hall after the Russians had taken over the area.

Also in charge of the Donetsk and Luhansk region in the Kremlin Sergei Kirijenko has been to Donbass. He is said to be preparing for referendums that would give Russia a mandate to annex the occupied territories to Russia. Kirijenko describes Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as “a fight against Nazism and fascism.”

Meduzan sources could not assess the success of the Ministry of Defense in anticipating a new attack on Kiev. According to the newspaper, Russia’s military leaders have apparently understood that Kiev cannot be captured without significant bloodshed.

The attack would also require more troops. The Kremlin believes that confirmation could be obtained from conscripts, for example.

On the other hand, Putin is not believed to declare a general mobilization because it could undermine his popularity among the people.

In the Kremlin it is also believed that the West will not continue its massive financial and military support to Ukraine as the war continues.

“Sooner or later, Europe will get tired of helping. They need both their money and their weapons themselves. As autumn approaches, they also need to negotiate [Venäjän kanssa] gas and oil, ”says one source.

At the moment, according to Meduza sources, the situation seems to be that little is happening on the front. Russian troops are advancing in small steps, and they are also having problems.

“The background is the fact that the Ukrainians did not give up immediately, as many thought. But even if the flash war failed and mistakes were made, that doesn’t mean Russia’s victory would be possible, ”another source says.

He recalls that Russia has clearly more resources for warfare than Ukraine would have without Western support.

Kremlin official talk of Russia’s goals in Ukraine remains vague and open to interpretation.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the primary objective of the “special operation” is “the liberation of Donbas,” although Russian forces have already advanced beyond the borders of these areas to Kherson and Zaporizhia.

Putin even recently signed a decree that will speed up the granting of Russian citizenship to residents of these areas.

At the Moscow Victory Day parade on May 9, Putin reiterated Russia’s goals. He said “all plans will be implemented” and “the result will be achieved”.

“In the past, the president has defined Russia’s goals as demilitarizing and denaturing Ukraine – whatever that means,” Meduza said.
