Russian attack Mykolaiv, southern Ukraine, suffered heavy attack as Russian missiles kill dozens of resting soldiers

Mykolaiv is strategically important. It is reasonable to assume that there will still be fierce battles over the control of the city.

Russian Dozens of Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in a missile strike in the barracks of the southern city of Mykolaiv, according to numerous international sources such as the news agency AFP and the British Broadcasting Corporation BBC.

There can be as many as a hundred deaths. Russia launched a missile strike early on Friday, but victims were still excavated from the rubble on Saturday afternoon.

A journalist and photographer for the Swedish newspaper Expressen were present in Mykolaiv at the time of the attack. The Express released a shocking Friday afternoon reportage on the clearing of the ruins of the barracks. Already at that point, at least 30 dead had been found.

Mykolaiv The attack is one of the worst in the Ukrainian war to date.

“A lot of people died in the barracks, we didn’t want to give an exact figure yet,” said the Finn Lukas Stasevsky To HS by phone. Stasevsky, who has a Ukrainian background, has been in Ukraine during the war. On Saturday afternoon he had just left Mykolaiv and traveled west towards Odessa.

“Yesterday’s blow was a really hard piece,” Stasevsky said of the reactions from Mykolaiv’s residents. “The atmosphere in the city is clearly more tense.”

“The soldiers who were killed had just come from the front,” Stasevsky continues. “They were on rest. They were sleeping soldiers. ”

Stasevsky is a cellist who at the start of the war was in Kiev studying to become a film director. After the Russian invasion began, he decided to stay in Ukraine.

In Mykolaiv Stasevsky was two days. He went to photograph the devastation of the war in the Balabanivka district, among other places. It is a residential area with no infrastructure indicative of any military activity.

Still, Balabanivka has been hit by Russian rocket attacks, the consequences of which Lukas Stasevsky talks about in his video.

“They’ve fired pretty roughly,” Stasevsky says. “There are completely destroyed houses in the detached house area.”

It is worth it assumes that the war in the Mykolaiv region will intensify further. The city of about half a million inhabitants is on the route from Kherson to Odessa.

If Russia’s goal is to take over the entire Black Sea coast from Ukraine, the road will pass through Mykolaiv.

“Mykolaiv is like a gateway to Odessa, a strategically extremely important point,” Stasevsky said. “Mykolaiv has become one of the symbols of resistance.”
