At the climate conference in Glasgow, Russia intends to raise “toxic issues for the West” and will act in coalition with other countries. Ruslan Edelgeriyev, the special envoy of the Russian president for climate issues, said this in an interview with Izvestia.
“We must understand that at such global international platforms, conferences, we must always speak in coalitions. I will not say now what specific questions I want to put up for voting. They will be toxic to the West, but they must be present if we are talking about the climate. There are painful issues that need to be raised and discussed around them, ”the politician clarified.
The special representative said that he is currently negotiating with other countries with which Russia plans to “join forces” at the upcoming climate conference in Glasgow.
The 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-26) will begin in Glasgow, Scotland on November 1st. More than 30 thousand people from 200 countries are expected to take part in its work.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will not go to Glasgow, said his press secretary Dmitry Peskov.
“Of course, the Russian side will be there, but we are also in contact with the organizers now, so we will tell you how it will be later,” Peskov replied to a clarifying question whether the Kremlin could confirm participation in the conference.
