Moscow: unsecured oil supply in the event of a “price cap”. As early as August, the EU could reduce gas consumption by 15% in order to “save the winter”
Day 148 of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Russian military objectives have changed and no longer focus “only” on eastern Ukraine and the Donbass but concern “a series of other territories”. This is the announcement of the Russian Foreign Minister Serghei Lavrov that has shaken the world since the early hours of yesterday morning. And Ukraine symmetrically asks its Western allies to “increase sanctions on Russia and speed up arms supplies”.
EU countries should reduce gas demand by 15% between 1 August 2022 and 31 March 2023. This is the European Commission’s proposal, contained in a regulation of the “Plan to save the winter”, with measures to reduce gas demand. The new regulation would also give Brussels the possibility to declare, after consultation with the Member States, a ‘Union alert’ on security of supply, imposing a reduction – the percentage of which is not specified in the Union executive plan – the demand for gas from all states.
