OTTAWA (Reuters) – Russian forces will stop firing from 10 a.m. on Wednesday and stand ready to provide humanitarian corridors so people can leave Kiev and four other Ukrainian cities, a senior Russian official said. level on Tuesday, according to the Tass news agency.
Information about the Kiev, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv and Mariupol corridors will be sent to Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk, said Mikhail Mizintsev, head of Russia’s National Defense Control Center.
Vereshchuk said earlier on Tuesday that authorities had once again failed to evacuate civilians from Mariupol.
“Given the deteriorating humanitarian situation… and to ensure the safety of civilians and foreign nationals, Russia will observe a regime of silence from 10:00 am Moscow time on March 9 and is ready to provide humanitarian corridors,” he said. Mizintsev, according to Tass.
Mizintsev previously said that Ukrainian authorities had only endorsed one route to evacuate civilians from areas affected by the 10 proposed fighting, including five to Kiev-controlled territory.
