The man and woman each received ten months in prison for violating religious sentiments.
A Muscovite the court sentenced the young man and woman to prison for an image posted on social media, several Russian and international news sources reported on Friday. The penalty for each is ten months.
In the picture Anastasia Chistova is squatting with her boyfriend Ruslan Bobijevin in front as if to engage in oral sex. Chistova is back to the camera and has a jacket with the words “Police” on the back.
In the background, the St. Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow looms, located on the edge of the Red Square and one of Russia’s most famous landmarks. The punishments came from “violating religious feelings”.
Picture was taken at the end of September and Bobijev published it on Instagram and Tiktok, reports the news site Jellyfish. The release was followed by a storm on social media as many found the image obscene and offensive.
Ruslan Bobiyev recently published apologies on various channels. Bobiyev is a citizen of Tajikistan and is likely to face deportation from Russia in addition to imprisonment. Chistova is Russian.
Bobijev and Chistova were originally sentenced to ten days in prison for opposing the authorities, says Radio Free Europe. However, they were later charged with insulting religious feelings.
