The national team of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) at the Games in Tokyo surpassed itself in the number of gold medals – there were more of them than at the last summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The correspondent of “Lenta.ru” informs about it.
At the 2016 competition in Rio, the Russian team received 55 medals: 19 gold, 17 silver and 19 bronze. This year in Tokyo, athletes have won 68 awards: 20 gold medals, 25 silver and 23 bronze medals. The 20th gold medal in the high jump was won by Maria Lasitskienė, who participated in the Olympics for the first time.
British cyclist Jason Kenney won the 21st gold medal for the national team, which allowed the British team to overtake the Russians in the medal standings. Because of this, on August 8, the Russian team dropped to fifth place in the overall medal standings. At the time of publication, the USA is in the lead, China is slightly behind, Japan is in third place, and Great Britain is in fourth.
