According to Russia, the incident occurred in the Pacific Ocean, near the Kuril Islands north of Japan.

However, the U.S. armed forces have denied Russia’s claim.

“I am not going to comment on the exact location of our submarines, but we will fly, sail and operate safely in international waters,” Armed Forces Spokesman, Captain Kyle Raines said in a statement on Saturday.

Russian according to the ministry of defense, a russian warship had spotted a U.S. submarine near the Kuril Islands in the course of military exercises and required the ship to surface. The couriers are located in the area between Japan and the Russian Kamchatka Peninsula.

However, according to the ministry, the submarine had not obeyed the order and the Russian ship had driven the vessel out of the area. However, the ministry did not elaborate on how the warship had done this.
