Russia resumed gas supply through the German-Russian Nord Stream gas pipeline on Thursday. This is reported by international news agencies. The gas pipeline had been closed for the past ten days for its usual annual maintenance, but it was uncertain whether gas would flow through the pipeline again.
The European Commission feared that after the maintenance, Russia would definitively stop gas deliveries through the Nord Stream I. European Commissioner Johannes Hahn said this week that the Commission even started from the “assumption that the gas supply will no longer be resumed”. The Russian state gas company Gazprom also informed European customers earlier this week that it cannot guarantee that it will be able to supply gas again after the routine work.
Gazprom already cut gas supplies to Germany by 60 percent in June. It is not clear whether the gas supply will be the same as before maintenance. At that time it was about 67 million cubic meters per day, about 40 percent of the maximum capacity.
