Russia, in case of withdrawal from the ISS project, will not abandon its obligations to organize the flooding of the station when its resource is fully depleted. About this on Tuesday, August 24, on the air of the radio station Echo of Moscow told the head of “Roscosmos” Dmitry Rogozin
“It should be borne in mind that the ISS dodges space debris and compensates for its orbit exclusively at the expense of the Russian Progress spacecraft. One of them docked at the station today. And when the time comes and the station depletes its resource, it is the Russian ships that will have to flood it at a certain point in the ocean, ”he said.
In the same broadcast, the head of Roscosmos said that the issue of Russia’s continued participation in the International Space Station project should be resolved in the coming months.
The Russian Federation plans to withdraw from the ISS project from 2025 and create its own national orbital station. The first variant of its creation envisages the retrofitting of the ISS Russian segment with nodal and scientific-power modules, and after the completion of the ISS operation – their separation together with the previously docked Nauka. The second option provides for the creation of a station in a high-latitude orbit.
