Russia, risk of nuclear conflict in the Kaliningrad-Lithuania case
The Kaliningrad-Lithuania crisis threatens to set off World War III. And it brings to mind the words of Andrei Kozyrev, former Russian foreign minister. In an interview with Fox News, Kozyrev, who is also the author of the book “The Firebird: The Elusive Fate of Russian Democracy”, underlined the risks associated with the growing tensions between NATO and Russia: “If the troops of the Atlantic Alliance were to attack Moscow, the Kremlin would probably have recourse to nuclear weapons. However, in the current circumstances there are no plans to attack Russia ”. But now there is the Kaliningrad case.
The threat of recourse to the dreaded nuclear equipment to the inevitable outbreak of the Third World war it is back in the news after the declarations of Finland and Sweden, determined to join NATO, and the consequent hostile reactions of Putin, stigmatized by Zelensky as “a danger to the entire planet”. Kozyrev, on the other hand, says that it is a case of a “dog that barks, but absolutely does not bite”.
“The commanders in chief of the army will do everything to prevent such a scenario and to prevent the use of nuclear weapons, unless they fear that there is imminent danger to their homeland.” Although Putin has on some occasions pointed to the mere existence of NATO as a tangible danger for Russia, Kozyrev believes that “the tsar” will do nothing that would endanger his powerunless others are threatening him.
