The UNESCO International Convention against Doping in Sport should be aimed at uniting countries, and the sanctions mechanism should be excluded from it. This was announced on October 25 by the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin after a meeting of the presidium of the convention.
“The convention should be aimed at bringing countries together. We will do everything necessary to remove the sanctions mechanism from the provisions of the convention, and all efforts were aimed at helping states that experience difficulties in organizing anti-doping systems, ”he told reporters.
Matytsin expressed hope that other countries would support Russia’s position. He also added that the Russian side will support the Fund’s work to support anti-doping projects.
The eighth session of the International Anti-Doping Convention Conference will take place at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris on October 26-28. World kickboxing champion Vladimir Mineev is taking part in the Russian delegation.
On October 20, it became known that the Russian volleyball player Dmitry Musersky, who plays for the Japanese club “Suntory Sunbirds”, was suspended for nine months for the use of doping. The reason for the removal of the Russian from the game was the rechecking of the player’s 2013 doping test result.
