The Russian Foreign Ministry said that Moscow had established diplomatic relations with the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DNR and LNR). This is stated in a message issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, reports RIA News.
The statement of the department says that in accordance with the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin, on February 22, by exchanging notes between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republics of Donbass, an agreement was drawn up on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Russian Federation and the DPR, as well as the Russian Federation and the LPR at the level of embassies.
On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of the DPR and LPR and instructed the country’s Armed Forces to ensure the maintenance of peace in the republics. After that, a number of Western countries went to the introduction of new packages of sanctions against Moscow and criticized her for the decision.
Over the past few months, Kiev and Western countries have been accusing Russia of pulling troops to the borders of Ukraine and preparing a military offensive. Moscow has repeatedly denied the existence of such aggressive plans. According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, NATO’s statements about the impending “invasion” are alarmist.
