On Friday, July 1, Russia celebrates an important holiday – Combat Veterans Day. Nikolai Zemtsov, coordinator of the Immortal Regiment public campaign, spoke to Izvestia about the significance of the memorable date.
According to him, in Russia there are glorious traditions of serving the fatherland, but modern society needs to decide on its attitude to this issue.
“Our state has a thousand-year history, so the wheel of history is smeared with blood, we are constantly defending our sovereignty, our identity, our incredibly long borders. I believe that everything related to service should be slowly adjusted so that the stratum of soldiers, people of service, takes root as much as possible in all sectors of society, ”the expert emphasized.
He pointed out that all young people should be ready to defend their country, no matter what professional career they choose.
“The younger generation must go through this. And feel inside that we keep what we inherited. Now, if you think that the whole big state is a legacy passed on to you by your grandfather, and you keep it and pass it on to your children in the same way, then you become the most correctly oriented employee, ”Zemtsov believes.
As the interlocutor of Izvestia noted, the profession of a military man should become the most honorable and respected in society. According to him, Russia is a unique phenomenon in world history, it is a thousand-year-old statehood that “requires protection, storage and transfer.”
“Accordingly, the community of warriors must reproduce itself. This is school and education. In this sense, veterans themselves must integrate themselves into this chain of generations and be a link between the past, present and future. If such a bridge is thrown into the heart of a young person, then this will become the most correct setting in the youth environment, ”added Zemtsov.
Combat Veterans Day does not yet have an official status. Public organizations proposed to establish such a holiday in 2008. The first events to mark the Day of Combat Veterans took place in 2009. Then in many cities meetings of veterans were organized.
