Izvestia: US Intends to Help Ukraine Until Peace Is Concluded
Representatives of the US Embassy in Russia in a conversation with “Izvestia” stated that Washington intends to help Ukraine until peace is concluded.
“We will continue to provide assistance to the Ukrainian government and the Ukrainian people until a lasting and just peace is achieved,” the US Embassy said. However, it did not explain what exactly it meant by “just” peace.
Andrey Kortunov, scientific director of the Russian International Affairs Council, pointed to a change in the US rhetoric on ending the Ukrainian conflict. In his opinion, Washington no longer has hopes for Ukraine’s victory, and this forces them to lower their expectations.
“Right now, the Biden administration would like to act as a peacemaker. Hence the shift in rhetoric in favor of some kind of ceasefire agreement,” Kortunov said.
Earlier, former US Marine Corps intelligence officer Scott Ritter said that the turning point in the conflict in Ukraine occurred before the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) attacked Kursk Oblast. According to Ritter, the UAF is “suffering huge losses” because it sent its remaining military units to attack Kursk Oblast.
