The ceremony of handing over the remains of the Red Army soldiers took place at the Friendship Monument between the Russian checkpoint Novye Yurkovichi and the Ukrainian checkpoint Senkovka.
The chairman of the interregional public organization “Military Archeology” Yuri Solomatin said that one of the dead soldiers was identified by a piece of photographic film with a photograph of his party card preserved in his document folder. The remains of a Red Army soldier who died in the battle for Moscow were also found. He was identified by the surviving iron medallion.
“The soldier must go to his Land, return to his family, to his descendants. A soldier must return home regardless of different political moments, ”said Andriy Pulin, a representative of the Ukrainian organization“ Military Archeology ”.
Earlier, on October 11, on the territory of the Rzhevsky district of the Tver region, members of the Moscow public organization “Search” during the “Memory watch” stage found the remains of 128 soldiers and commanders of the Red Army. They were found in an unaccounted mass grave – a sanitary burial at the edge of a collective farm field.
Experts, using the found clothing and items, established that the soldiers died during the 1942 battles, which took place in the winter.
