Russian diplomatic mission: UN OHCHR hides the human rights situation in Ukraine
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) hides the real human rights situation in Ukraine, and also does not include in its reports thousands of pages of documents sent by Russia in this case. Representative of the Russian diplomatic mission Yaroslav Eremin spoke about this during a dialogue on the situation with human rights in Ukraine within the UN Human Rights Council, writes RIA Novosti.
“Today’s review was another example of the one-sided approach of Mr. Türk (OHCHR head Volker Türk) and OHCHR to covering the situation in Ukraine,” he noted.
According to Eremin, “those crumbs of maximally smooth criticism of Kyiv, which are included in the latest report of the Office, have nothing to do with the real situation in Ukraine.” At the same time, the Russian side transmits to Volker Türk almost monthly data on detailed documented cases of gross violations of human rights and international humanitarian law by Ukraine. The volume of these materials exceeds “many thousands of pages,” Eremin summarized.
Earlier, Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexander Dubinsky said that the Ukrainian authorities were violating the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights of the United Nations. He also accused Vladimir Zelensky of violating Article 12 of the agreement, which provides for the free exit of citizens from the country.
In addition, Dubinsky emphasized that Western countries should realize the inability of the President of Ukraine to negotiate. He expressed hope that the situation will change after Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election.
State Duma deputy Alexei Chepa said that during the Ukrainian conflict, Russia has repeatedly contacted the UN with reports of attacks on nuclear power plants, assassination attempts on journalists, and the use of prohibited weapons, but has never heard an adequate response.
