The curse of the points continues for the Williams and for George Russell. The English driver of the Grove team, once again, has seen the dream of the top-10 vanish a few corners from the end of the Grand Prix. In Austria, unlike seven days ago, it was not a technical problem that took away from him what would have been a well-deserved point, but the talent of Fernando Alonso. The esteem between the Spanish veteran and the young star of King’s Lynn is known and has also emerged in this spectacular battle, won by Alpine # 14.

“Today [il punto] it was so close, yet so far. I got off to a good start – said Russell after the race – but then Tsunoda crashed and cut me off to avoid going against his team mate, so I had to brake and lost a couple of positions. This didn’t change the result of our race though, as there were faster cars that would have finished ahead of us anyway. That point would have been like a win for us, so I was fighting with everything I had. Of all the riders behind in this situation, however, Fernando is not the one you would choose – the Englishman joked bitterly – it was flying and keeping it away with my tires was not possible. We are all disappointed to have lost by such a small margin, but we are making progress “.
Alonso ‘crowns’ Russell: “You will be champion”
The race is much more anonymous than Nicholas Latifi, 15th: “It hasn’t been a very busy day for me – commented the Canadian – we stayed out of trouble in the first few laps and then I ran alone for most of the race. I felt like we still lacked the pace, but there were places where the car fared much better than last week. So we have clearly taken some steps forward. We’ll see what we can improve for next time “.
