At least five people were killed and more than 40 injured when a red pickup truck jumped over the security fences at speed Sunday and made its way into a Christmas parade in the US city of Waukesha, Wisconsin. The incident occurred around 4:40 p.m. local time.
This was reported by local authorities through their social networks. “At this time, we can confirm that five people have died and more than 40 are injured … However, these numbers may change as we collect additional information,” they added.
For his part, the mayor of the city, Shawn Reilly, said that “today our community faced horror and tragedy in what should have been a community celebration. It saddens me deeply to know that so many people in our community attended a parade and ended up dealing with injuries and pain, “he said.
Hospitals in the area, including Children’s Wisconsin Hospital, reported treating dozens of patients, including 18 children, but no deaths were reported.

In a post on Twitter, Jen Psaki, the White House spokeswoman, said that “President Joe Biden has been briefed on the tragic situation and federal officials are in contact with local authorities to offer assistance.”
The official added that “our hearts go out to the families and the entire community.”
The incident through the testimonies of the witnesses
Nurse Jodi Singsime, 42, told how she experienced the event. “I heard and saw people being beaten, but what you could do other than watch was listen, and that sound was crazy,” he said. He also described how his encounter with a child injured in the accident was.
“I felt her neck for a pulse and she had, but her eyes were barely open and her sweet, innocent little face was purple. She wasn’t really with us,” he said.
Another woman told Milwaukee television station ‘Fox6’ that “the truck had hit a dance team of 9-15 year old girls.” An additional witness said that “the driver also struck a group of dancing grandmothers.”
The local police investigate the facts
Waukesha Police Department Chief Daniel Thompson confessed that it was not yet clear whether the incident was terrorist in nature or not. However, he claimed that the police had shot the driver and that one person was in custody.
For his part, the district superintendent of schools, reported that this Monday, schools will remain closed for grades 4K-12. Additionally, additional counselors will be available to students.
In addition, according to local media, a wide stretch of Main Street, the main street of the parade, remains closed while the investigation continues.
