The Russian beats Hubi Hurkacz, the Serbian continues in his incredible tournament and, after the victory against Djokovic, eliminates Shapovalov in a three-tie-break match
Andrey Rublev and Jiri Vesely will compete for the title on the concrete in Dubai. The Russian and the Serbian win two very hard and intense games, both closed in the third set: Rublev must recover and wins at the third tie-break against Hubi Hurkacz (who had beaten Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals), Vesely continues on his incredible path – had started from qualifying – and eliminated the number 6 seed on the scoreboard after beating Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals. The Serbian entered the tournament as number 123 in the world.
MESSAGES OF PEACE
–
For Rublev this is the second final of the season, in the space of a couple of weeks: in Marseille came the victory against Felix Auger-Aliassime in two sets. Eyes on the number 7 in the world also for the Russian question, with the tennis player who did not hide and, after the victory, wrote “No war please” on the camera. Vesely also replicated what his colleague did, sending a message of peace at the end of an incredible match: after losing the first set and winning the second – both at the tie-break – the Serbian was one step away from defeat. Shapovalov served for the match at 5-4 but made a very serious mistake on the net and a double fault, keeping the opponent in the game and then losing at the tie-break: for Vesely this is the fourth final in his career, the first since February 2020 in Pune.
