The Formula 1 world championship this year has renewed a fast of victories that for the Ferrari continues from 2019. A crisis of results that the Maranello house absolutely does not experience in the universe of covered wheels and endurance races, where the Prancing Horse has just returned from a 2021 full of triumphs with his own 488: from the 24 Hours of Le Mans to that of Spa-Francorchamps, without forgetting the success in the WEC World Championship (GTE Pro) and in the World Challenge GT3, just to mention some of the most emblematic results of this season.
Successes also achieved thanks to the management of Antonello Coletta, Head of the Red Covered Wheel Competitions. Interviewed by The Gazzetta dello Sport, the Roman manager made a summary of a 2021 to remember, without excluding analyzes on a future that could reserve surprises for the drivers who will participate in the next championships with the team: “This is it was Ferrari’s most successful season ever in Endurance – commented Coletta – we never left anything on the street. It is the direct testimony of the commitment made by the company in these activities, in addition to the technological level of Ferrari “. After the celebrations for this season, the Scuderia will soon get to work to face 2022, the last year of use of the 488 before the debut of the Hypercar expected for 2023: “It will be a complex year – confirmed Coletta – because in addition to continuing the normal routine for all the championships we will face, with the aim of reconfirming ourselves, we will also have to develop the 296 and the Hypercar in parallel. It will be a delicate season, because we will lay the foundations for the future. Unlike F1, where there are test limits, the Hypercar will hit the track in June, and we will complete 5-6 months of testing. We will bring the prototype to the track before the presentation of the car, which will take place at the end of 2022 ″.
In conclusion, Coletta also praised the work of Alessandro Pier Guidi, without, however, closing the doors to other drivers who have not had a solid experience in GT: “He is undoubtedly the most victorious rider in Endurance, and we are lucky enough to have him – commented – Alessandro is an excellence, and deserves better consideration. As for our pilots, we will fish inside our vast tank, where he plays a role of primary importance. He will be busy from day one for the development of the car, and then we will go to define the crews by the end of 2022 for the following season. Our priority is for the drivers who have already raced in GT, but if Giovinazzi is available we will definitely take him into consideration. Mick Schumacher already has a lot to do while we have already talked to Valentino Rossi. He will be the one to choose what to do“.
