The Rospotrebnadzor named the peak of infectiousness of the coronavirus, when an infected person is most dangerous to others. This was announced on Saturday, November 21, by Natalya Pshenichnaya, Deputy Director for Clinical and Analytical Work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, reports Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
According to her, the highest level of COVID-19 excretion can be 2-3 days before the first symptoms appear. In particular, before coughing, runny nose, fever, or loss of smell. Pshenichnaya noted that even those who carry the infection in a mild form will be contagious at this point.
Those with COVID-19 are also dangerous during the first week after infection. Later, the viable virus becomes less active, but still persists in the human body, the expert added. If the disease is mild, then SARS-CoV-2 remains for up to 10 days, if moderate-severe and severe forms – up to 20 days.
On November 18, Rospotrebnadzor identified the category of Russians in whose body the coronavirus is emitted for the longest time. According to the epidemiologist, the SARS-CoV-2 virus lasts longer in the body of people with reduced immunity.
According to the latest data, the total number of coronavirus infections in Russia has exceeded 2 million. Today it is 2 039 926 cases. For the entire time, 35,311 deaths and 1,551,414 recoveries were recorded.
