Damage from wildfires in 2022 will be three times less than a year earlier. This opinion was expressed by the head of the Federal Forestry Agency Ivan Sovetnikov in an interview with Izvestia.
In 2021, the damage from fires amounted to almost 11 billion rubles. The exact amount of damage for 2022 in Rosleskhoz will be calculated by the spring of next year. As noted, the damage will be affected by the fact that in 2022 fires covered an area of only 3.4 million hectares.
“This year we have a much better situation with forest fires than it was in the past. In 2021, the area covered by fire exceeded 10 million hectares. This year it is three times less – 3.4 million hectares,” Sovetnikov noted.
A significant contribution to the reduction of areas was made by additional funding, the head of Rosleskhoz added. He noted that if last year 6 billion rubles were allocated for all fires, then in 2022 – 14.2 billion.
“We evaluate any fire in terms of money, but this is some potential income that, in theory, the state could receive. If there hadn’t been a fire, if a forest user had come there, if he had cut down, taken out, prepared. In reality, these figures are more about statistics than about life, ”Sovetnikov said.
