“Based on the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office, Roskomnadzor restricted access to the materials of the Euronews publication in Russia. The foreign media systematically posted unreliable socially significant information about the special military operation being carried out by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, as well as information calling for the participation of citizens in mass (public) events held in violation of the established order on the territory of the Russian Federation. agency services.
Access to the website of the publication was restricted on the basis of Article 15.3 of the federal law on information, information technologies and information protection, which regulates the procedure for restricting access to sites containing calls for mass riots, extremist activities, participation in mass (public) events held in violation the established order.
It is also reported that Euronews is not available on TV either: when the channel is turned on, the message “At the request of the copyright holder, the broadcasting of the TV channel has been suspended” is displayed.
Earlier, on March 16, Roskomnadzor stated that since the start of the special operation to protect Donbass, the number of messages with unreliable socially significant information, including those discrediting the Russian Armed Forces, has increased many times over. Since February 24, access to more than 29 thousand unreliable materials that form false beliefs in society has been restricted.
On March 4, the State Duma adopted in the third reading amendments to the Criminal Code on punishment for fakes, discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and calls for sanctions. According to the adopted document, liability for the public dissemination of deliberately false information about the Russian army involves a fine in the amount of 700 thousand to 1.5 million rubles, or in the amount of the convict’s income for a period of up to 18 months. Dissemination of false information about the RF Armed Forces with the artificial creation of evidence or motivated by hatred or enmity, as well as by officials and organized groups, can be punished by imprisonment for a term of five to 10 years.
The situation in Donbass escalated significantly in mid-February due to shelling by the Ukrainian military. The authorities of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics announced the evacuation of residents to the Russian Federation, and also turned to Moscow for help. On February 21, Putin signed a decree recognizing the independence of the DPR and LPR, as well as treaties of friendship and mutual assistance.
