The former deputy director of Rosgvardia was found guilty under article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Fraud on an especially large scale”). At the announcement of the verdict, judge Artem Filimonov noted that the general had organized the theft of someone else’s property.
The military prosecutor’s office requested eight years in prison for Mileiko, fined him 800 thousand rubles and deprived him of the rank of lieutenant general and awards.
According to the investigation, in 2012, in Balashikha, near Moscow, the general’s wife illegally acquired a non-residential premises in a house for the military at a reduced cost, where she opened a beauty salon. The premises were first registered for an elderly relative of the general, and then resold for 980 thousand rubles to his wife. At the same time, the investigation estimated the cost of the premises at 21 million rubles.
According to the official representative of the Russian Guard Valery Gribakin, in the summer of 2019, Mileiko was relieved of his post after an official audit. The materials that interested the investigating authorities were initially collected by employees of the Rosgvardia’s own security service.
Sergei Mileiko was detained on October 21, 2020, but released on an obligation to appear.
On December 18, 2020, he was taken into custody.
