Football: Roma, Daniele De Rossi sacked
“AS Roma announces that it has relieved Daniele De Rossi from the position of coach responsible for the First Team. The Club’s decision is taken in the interest of the team, in order to be able to promptly resume the desired path, at a time when the season is still at its beginning. To Daniele, who will always be at home in the Giallorossi Club, a heartfelt thanks for the work done in these months with passion and dedication. Communications on the technical guidance of the team will follow”.
Roma’s season had started on an uphill slope with 3 points in 4 games: draws at Cagliari, Juventus and Genoa (last Sunday with a 96th minute goal by De Winter) and the home defeat in the second match of the championship at the Olimpico against Empoli (1-2).
De Rossi arrived on the Giallorossi bench in January, after the dismissal of José Mourinho: with him, Roma had been the protagonist of a very good second half of the championship that had made them dream of qualifying for the Champions League until almost the end (then it went to Bologna, with the Capitoline team sixth and in the Europa League). In June, the club had announced the renewal of De Rossi’s contract until 2027, now his dismissal.
