Giuseppe Conte and Virginia Raggi: towards an irremediable rift in the M5S?
Virginia Raggi summons Roman parliamentarians and councilors: the controversy breaks out between the different souls of the M5S
High tension in the Five Star Movement for the initiative of Virginia Raggi, which summoned Roman parliamentarians and councilors to the new headquarters of the M5S in via di Campo Marzio for Tuesday 12 October. The official purpose of the summit is to take stock after the administrative - which among other things marked the exclusion of the outgoing Mayor from the ballot for the capital - but there are those who suspect that it may be the launch of its own internal current, an initiative that would confirm what was anticipated by affaritaliani.it.
Today the Mayor met Roberto Gualtieri, after its previous tete a tete with Enrico Michetti had caused controversy. Raggi continues to say that he will not give voting indications, stating that the voters are not packages to be passed on to those who believe themselves, but within the M5S the outgoing Mayor is indicated as a strong opponent of the line desired by Giuseppe Conte, which looks to a structural alliance with the Democratic Party.
It stands on radically opposite positions Roberta Lombardi, which is part of the Board of Nicola Zingaretti in the Lazio Region with the role of councilor. Precisely for this reason the former parliamentarian wrote an open letter to the militants of the M5S over the weekend, hoping not only the vote for Gualtieri, but also that Raggi "come down from the balcony".
A split now all too evident, as is also understood by the intention of some M5S exponents - anticipated by Adnkronos - to desert the meeting called by Raggi. Among these there would also be Lombardi, particularly annoyed by an initiative that, in his view, the first citizen of the capital would not have been entitled to adopt.
Not only. Even the invitations to the summit seem to arouse discontent, as several well-known faces intending to support Gualtieri would have been excluded. Some parliamentarians have opposed practical problems: the Chamber is convened from 15.00 to 20.00, simultaneously with the summit of discord.
But there will be the senator Giulia Lupo, considered a "very loyal" of Raggi: "It is normal that after such important elections we do an analysis all together. But there is no intention of making a current on the part of the outgoing mayor. At this moment we just have to remain united because the dream of many is precisely to see us split. I spoke with the mayor Raggi: she just wants to work on the themes. This is her beacon. And on the ballot I am totally on the line of Raggi, the citizen must be free to choose, votes cannot be moved as packages ".
The last word will probably say Conte, who in these hours will be confronted with Raggi right on the ballot. His goal would be to give clear and unequivocal support to Gualtieri, but the outgoing Mayor seems willing not to step back: "The M5S-Pd agreement? There is this agreement at the national level. from there I will make an absolutely coherent opposition with what my government program has been in these five years, without discounts and collaborating instead where there is the possibility of opening, in a very honest, sincere and transparent way, as it is right that is".
